I am wondering if there is any interest in a Marans Egg Show at the APA Canadian National hosted by the Vernon Pigeon and Poultry Club on Nov. 5-6 in Armstrong B.C This show would be sponsored by the Marans Club and you don,t have to be a member to enter. Eggs would be mailed to me and there is a nomial entry fee. The Marans club would also be accepting eggs from people in the U.S and bringing them to our show/ with the proper paperwork and all eggs are destroyed at after the show. Special Prizes would be supplied by the Marans Club. Classes are divided by color variety. We are in the process of setting this up but I want to check interest first.

There is no Marans Club in Canada. The Club sponsoring this is the Marans Club USA the ones responible for getting the Black Coppers into the APA. I think this is very exciting and a chance for them with Marans to showcase their eggs.

I am sure there is a reason but it seems a shame to destroy eggs that were paid to be shipped and entry's paid for. You would think that after the judging that the eggs could be auctioned off and the proceeds go to the club or another worthy cause or maybe even to the owner of the eggs. Just a thought.

Dan if someone wants their eggs returned that can be arranged. The entry only consists of 3 eggs and at that time of year I would doubt that anyone would be sending fertile eggs anyway, we don't make the rules the Marans Club does.
I was just testing the waters to see if there was any interest with the people who have Marans here as most are usually going on about the egg color. If the interest isn't there then I likely will not put in in our plans for the show, just trying to promote different breeds and add a little variety to the show.

I won't have Maran eggs but would really love to see this as part of the show if there is the interest. The colour variation would be so interesting!

Hello Heather,

I would be more than happy to send some eggs of my #33 hen. Working a bit with the Cuckoo variety and try to get them up to snuff with the French standard as well as egg the color. Competition is a great tool to improve and as in Europe so many Maran clubs have egg shows/classes also, seems to be working. As far as Maran eggs, the jumbo size is also very important, not just color!

OK so there does seem to be some interest, so I will go ahead and continue working with the person that takes care of the Marans Club egg shows. You will be able to get the rules from thier club website but I will post here when I have everything in place in a few weeks. I am always super busy though the summer with all my young birds, judging and lots of things to bring together for this show and on top of that hobbling around waiting for a knee replacement, which I hope happens sooner rather than later. So stay posted everyone and thanks for the postive comments.

You are right Heather I never noticed the date and I didn't know that you could only send three but I was not thinking of having eggs shipped back to the sender but rather if a person saw eggs at the show which were much darker than their own then they would be happy to buy them but as you said at that time of year they would most likely be duds.

No Problem Dan and when I say 3eggs each entry is made up as 3 eggs a person will be able to put in as many entries as they please.
